Lanzarote Information

Welcome to the Lanzarote Information Page.

Lanzarote is known as the island of 100 volcanoes. Its volcanic origin has created a landscape with more than 300 volcanoes. It is the most eastern island of the Canary's and is situated very close to the African coast. With a good deal of flatland, Lanzarote is the least mountainous of the Canary Islands. Due to its low level, Lanzarote is below the level of humid and warm air. In general, this results in a dry climate with little rain. The average temperature is 24° in August and 17° in January. The sea temperature varies between 17° and 24° at the surface. The sun shines for many hours throughout the year, which allows sun worshippers to enjoy the long white-sand beaches and clear waters: those of Famara, Papagayo, Orzola, Puerto del Carmen or Las Cucharas. The wind is constant and moderate almost all year, making Lanzarote a suitable place for the practice of yachting, windsurfing and kitesurfing. The lava fields make up a botanical environment of great importance. Of special note are the lava fields in the National Park of Timanfaya, declared a national park in 1974. The whole island is a great volcanic structure built by successive eruptions on an instable base. Volcanic landscapes, clouds in constant movement, light and wind, white houses, singular architecture produced by the international artist, Cesar Manrique, crystal-clear waters, beaches of golden sand... All this is characteristic of Lanzarote. Come and discover it for yourself!

Puerto del Carmen is situated towards the south of Lanzarote and is by far the liveliest resort on the island. Puerto del Carmen started life as a fishing village and its picturesque harbour at the southern end of the resort, in the old town, is still very much in action. There is plenty to do here: with 5km of broad, pale sandy beaches, a wide variety of places to eat and drink (including The Hanging Monkey!), tours and instruction in snorkelling and scuba-diving, horse riding, a chance to admire the underwater world from a submarine or a glass-bottomed boat, deep-sea fishing, numerous excursions to attractions further afield and a wide selection of shops and shopping centres.

Because myself (Jon-Paul) and Sarah have been many times to Puerto Del Carmen on holiday and we have visited many nice places and been on a few trips that Carmen offer. If you would like any advice on places to visit trips to go on or resturants to eat out in, then use the Contact Page and send us a question.

Lanzarote also does attract some famous poeple to the Island. They are always romours going around about specific people being over there but people are never sure. The last very famous person who did visit Lanzarote Puerto Del Carmen was a woman by the name of Madonna. When she was over she visit a resturaunt in Puerto Del Carmen where she hired out the whole place for her and the body guard.
